UPHOLSTERY CLEANING

Life can be messy and your furniture reflects that. Kids with food and drink spillage and the shedding of pet fur gives your couches an unpleasant look – the opposite of relaxing! With our quick and easy cleaning tips, your couches will look great again.

Vacuuming

Vacuuming is the first step for any upholstery cleaning. In a matter of minutes, surface dirt, dust, hair and fur will be removed, bringing the colour back to your furniture. Regular vacuuming will help preserve the condition of your sofa. Remember to remove the cushions when vacuuming as debris can fall through and end up on the frame. Not a great place to store anything for later!

Checking cleaning instructions

Before you rush in and start cleaning your upholstery, it is important to check if there are any labels on the couch and instructions to guide you. Different upholstery has different requirements based on the materials used. Using the correct products and cleaning techniques will prolong the life of your furniture.

Cleaning

For surface cleaning you can create a general solution using warm water and some dish soap. Soak a cloth in this solution and then wring out. Lightly wipe and blot the surface of the upholstery. If there are stains, especially new ones, avoid rubbing as this will push the stain further into the fibres of the upholstery and make it worse.

Rinse the cloth as often as it looks dirty and repeat this process. If stains are still apparent, purchasing cleaning chemicals designed to remove stains might be necessary. Chemicals such as vodka or vinegar may also help depending on the type of upholstery. Alternatively, it may be a good idea to give us a call. At Service King our expertise is upholstery cleaning. We have the tools and equipment to eradicate stains and dirt.

Lastly, let the cushions air out so they can dry. Use a fan to dry faster if upholstery is inside your home.
